Prayers For This Time Of Coronavirus

At this time when we cannot meet together and sometimes words for a crises like this seem hard to find, this page provides some prayers than can be used, downloaded, printed and shared with those who are unable to use the internet.

Prayers about the outbreak of the virus

Heavenly Father, keep us under your wing in this time of uncertainty and distress. Give peace and strength to those who are anxious and fearful, particularly the vulnerable, the lonely, those who suffer with mental health issues and all in any kind of need. May we know your comfort and enabling grace in these days, resting in the knowledge that nothing can separate us from your love. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen

God of all compassion, be close to all who are isolated, ill or in any way distressed. In their loneliness, be their companion, in their anxiety, be their peace, in their darkness, be their light, through him who suffered alone on the cross, but reigns with you in glory, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Heavenly Father thank you that you love us with an everlasting love and you call us to love our neighbour as ourselves, remembering that we do our acts of kindness as unto you. In this time, give us strength to comfort those who are fearful, to give reassurance to the isolated and to reach out in any way we can. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Prayers for the NHS

Lord God, give to our NHS staff the skill, strength, sympathy and resilience that they need at this very difficult time when their already stretched resources are stretched even further. Give patience to those awaiting treatment and a sense of calm in busy areas of A&E and respiratory wards. May you work through our doctors, nurses and care workers, that many are restored to health. Give wisdom beyond their own to all medical researchers at this time, as they seek to find a vaccine. This we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayers for businesses

Lord Jesus we pray for businesses at this time of uncertainty, when income is harder to find. Give wisdom to bosses as they seek to care for employees and we pray for those employees who are fearful of losing their job. Guide all business decisions at this time. You are our unchanging provider and we look to you in this our hour of need. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer if we find ourselves ill or isolated

Gracious God, help me in the midst of this situation in which I find myself to trust you, to know that you are with me and that I can lean on your everlasting arms. Thank you for being here for me when fear threatens my resolve. Your strength is made perfect in my weakness and I turn afresh to you this day, knowing that you bring calm to my soul, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

For the Christian Community

This declaration is written by Barbara Glasson, President of the Methodist Conference

We are not people of fear, we are people of courage; we are not people of greed, we are people of generosity. We are your people God, giving, loving, wherever we are, whatever it costs, for as long as it takes wherever you call us.
